The terms governing your use of BHA’s website and certification services.

Last updated: 1 January 2026. Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully before using the British Halal Authority website or applying for our certification services. By accessing our website or submitting a certification application, you agree to be bound by these terms.

1. About British Halal Authority

British Halal Authority (“BHA”, “we”, “us”) is an independent, non-profit halal certification body registered in England & Wales. Our mission is to provide rigorous, transparent, and internationally recognised halal certification services to businesses in the UK and internationally.

2. Use of Our Website

By accessing this website, you agree to use it only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of others.

2.1 Permitted Use
  • Browsing information about BHA services and certification processes
  • Downloading publicly available materials for personal or business reference
  • Submitting enquiries or certification applications
  • Verifying the authenticity of BHA certificates using our verification tool
2.2 Prohibited Use
  • Misrepresenting any information in a certification application
  • Reproducing or distributing BHA logos, certificates, or trademarks without authorisation
  • Attempting to gain unauthorised access to our systems
  • Using the website for any unlawful or fraudulent activity
  • Transmitting harmful, offensive, or misleading content

3. Certification Services

3.1 Application and Assessment

All certification applications are subject to our standard assessment process, which includes document review, on-site audit, and approval by the Certification Committee. Submission of an application does not guarantee certification.

3.2 Certification Fees
  • Fees are as published on our website and are subject to change with 30 days’ notice
  • Application fees are non-refundable once assessment has commenced
  • Annual certification fees are due upon renewal
  • Failure to pay fees may result in suspension or withdrawal of certification
3.3 Certificate Validity
  • BHA Annual Scheme certificates are valid for 12 months and subject to annual renewal
  • GSO/SMIIC Scheme certificates are valid for 3 years with mid-term surveillance
  • Certificates are issued solely for the premises, products, and scope described therein
  • Certificates must not be used in a misleading manner or outside their stated scope
3.4 Suspension and Withdrawal

BHA reserves the right to suspend or withdraw certification in the following circumstances:

  • Non-compliance with halal standards discovered during surveillance or complaint investigation
  • Failure to pay certification fees within the agreed payment terms
  • Submission of false or misleading information
  • Failure to grant BHA access for audit activities
  • Voluntary withdrawal requested by the certified organisation

4. Intellectual Property

All content on this website, including text, images, logos, graphics, and the BHA halal mark, is the intellectual property of British Halal Authority or its licensors. You may not:

  • Use, reproduce, or distribute the BHA halal mark without an active, valid certification
  • Copy, adapt, or republish website content without prior written permission
  • Remove or alter any copyright notices on materials you legitimately download

Certified organisations are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the BHA halal mark solely in connection with the certified products and scope during the period of valid certification.

5. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • BHA provides website content on an “as is” basis and makes no warranties as to its accuracy or completeness
  • BHA shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the website or our services
  • BHA’s total liability for any claim arising from our certification services is limited to the fees paid for the relevant certification period
  • Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death, personal injury, fraud, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded

6. Third-Party Links

Our website may contain links to third-party websites for your convenience. BHA does not endorse, control, or accept responsibility for the content of those sites. Accessing third-party sites is at your own risk.

7. Complaints and Disputes

If you have a complaint about our services or a certification decision, please refer to our Complaints and Appeals Procedure available on our website. We are committed to resolving disputes fairly, impartially, and in a timely manner.

Any disputes arising from these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

8. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of England and Wales.

9. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to amend these Terms and Conditions at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Your continued use of our website or services following any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
